Welcome to Boreal Discovery

Have a struggling reader and you feel like you’ve exhausted your resources?

I offer Irlen services as a tool to help struggling readers, chronic head ache sufferers, and general light sensitivity issues.

Need tutoring services?

I can work with students who are struggling with a subject. Sometimes they just need a new face and a fresh perspective.

Struggling to connect the mundane work to exciting experiences?

Let me design a class that helps your kiddo understand how their math is connected to art, or how writing is imperative to cooking.

Looking for guidance to transition into the homeschool realm?

Getting answers to questions when you’re thinking about leaving public school can be overwhelming; let’s sit and chat.

Do you have a class you wish was offered?

I love to design and execute small classes based on student interest.

Oh, and summer camps, because they’re just plain fun.

My philosophy of education has always been deeply rooted in meeting students at their performance level and finding what motivates them. Your child’s education is important. My goal with Boreal Discovery is to help families find what motivates their children to learn, provide outlets for this learning, and help inspire creative learning to develop competent, kind humans.

State of AK Certified Teacher Certified Irlen Screener & Diagnostician

I’m Kristine. I’ve been working in education just shy of 20 years. I spent 15 years with the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District. I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Communications at St. Edward’s University, and a Master’s in Education from UAF. I have taken a step away from public education, and decided to offer alternate education services to homeschool families. I am passionate about creating hands on learning opportunities for students ages 8-18 (the little ones still scare me a bit). Because of my own children’s learning journeys, I have become an Irlen Diagnostician. This allows me to help struggling readers, students with ADD/HD, and so much more.
